The admin team Requests your presence and participation in the stories section with this Real Life Love Story Contest. In this contest, you can share any experience which was out of the ordinary, most remembered and something you cherish even now. After the SuperSelector we had for world cup, I know you guys would be raring to go for the next big cricket event on XB. What can get bigger than Ind-Aus series down under! So we bring to you the first ever automated betting cricket event of XB.

Raring to go! First lets get to know what its all about. After the tremendous response we received for 4 tests, we have extnded the contest for the tri series featuring Australia , India and Sri Lanka. Each ODI will have one betting thread open. This thread will have different bets in it, against which you can bet. Wondering what you would bet with? Everyone is given free virtual cash of 10,000. Use this vcash to bet on whatever option you would like to. Once the match is finished, we will settle the bets and you will get your winnings (or loose your points)

Some suggestions and tips...

* Dont bet everything you have in one go, keep something for other events.
* Bet carefully, once you have bet some cash, you cant have it back or correct it.
* You can bet multiple times on a single bet, if the event is still open for bets.
* Max vcash you can win on a bet is 25K, so bet accordingly. i.e if odds for a bet is 100/1, you can max bet 250 on this event, so that you cant win more than 25000 if you win this bet.
* Donot bet in fractions, only whole numbers will be considered.
* You can see your score in the postbit, and also others scores.
* Leaders of the game can be viewed by clicking the vBookie link in the navbar.

How does this betting work? Simple... if there is bet which says India is the winner of the first test with odds of 5/1. That would mean, if you bet 1 on this and you have bet it right, then you will get 5 points + 1 point you have bet back.

So if you bet Sachin tendulkar as highest scorer of the match with odds of 10/1, 100 vcash, and if it turns out to be right, then you will get back 1100 vcash (10*100 + 100).

If you are still confused, check the event thread and things will be clearer. If you still have any doubts, questions, do ask them in this thread and it will be cleared. Or send a pm to indkish or me.

Prizes?
Dibba for the winner
For the first time, we are giving reps as prize in a innovative manner. You can CONVERT your final vcash into reps! We will deduct the initial 10K vcash given free and convert the remaining vcash into reps. BUT, beware.. if you have less than 10K vcash by the end of all the test matches, then reps will be deducted from your account. After all betting is no fun without a risk of loosing, isnt it? . The conversion ratio will be announced soon.

The top 10 players can convert their vcash into filescheap bandwidth

For all the four tests, we will have a test wide bet and daily bets. So dont put all your vcash on the test bet, keep some for betting on the daily bets too.

As you all know, now we are onto superfast servers! As the number of users increased by leaps and bounds on XB, GF took two new opteron servers just to enable us have a super fast page generations and not to have ANY server busy messages!

But that meant additional cost! So we would like to have a donation week on the event of Holi

Friends... its long time we had a good contest... so here we come again... this time with the Banner and Logo contest

We need active participation from all users and want them to come out with good banner and logo suitable for XB and its sister concerns, BG and FC

Few things to be kept in mind while making these banners and logos...
1. Banners should have xboard, filescheap, bollygallery written clearly on them.
2. Though there is no specific theme, it would be good if the banner can resemble XB in some way
3. Size of the banner should be 720x90.
4. Logo should be of size 200x120 to 250x120 pixels.

Winners ofcourse have nice prizes
10GB of filescheap bandwidth each for the winner of Banner and Logo, and 5GB each for the runner ups And ya... also 300 reps for the winners and 200 for the runnerups... and 100 reps for the participants...

The competetion will commence from 00:00 IST, 31st Jan 2006... and will end on 6th Feb 2006, 23:59 IST. There is no limit as such on number of entries, but it would be good if each of you could limit their entries for both banners and logos to 5.

The admin team will decide the winners and will have the final say on it. They will be used on XB, BG and FC and also as siggies on other boards. Once submitted XB will have full rights on it... and blah blah blah...

In the last few days, a number of users have reported problems with the WYSIWG (What You See Is What You Get) text editor
See below:

Ofcourse, you can click on the

image to change the message editor mode to "Simple Text Edit".

But since a number of users have complained about this new editor - we have decided to bring back the old editor. I have run a query to set the old editor as the default for all users. So, you should now see the old "simple text box" for posting Quick Replies.

If you want to change your default Editor to WYSIWG - you can do that using the UserCP - Edit Options page

As most members misused the old rep system which led to soaring high rep points and power, new rep system is implemented which will keep the reps and power in control.

To nullify the reps gained by some members by misusing the old rep system, everybody's reps are reduced proportionately to create a balance.

Some other new features are also implemented in rep system to ensure that it is not miused again. However, no system is foolproof hence members are requested to use the rep system judiciously and avoid reps exchange for no reason.

As you all must be knowing that XB faced database problems yesterday.

Inspite of rigrous effort to repair the database, we were left with no other option then to swicth to old backup as repairing did no help.

Luckily and because of good planning of GF to make backups periodically, we were able to restore to the stable backup of may, 5th.

Some of you might have lost posts made on may,6th and the reps collected on the same day.

I hope you guys can understand the problem and can bear with the some lost reps/posts.

hello fellow XBoarders,

It is with great grief that I inform you that we are going through a very bad financial crunch and will not be able to afford the ccvids server in May 2005. The server will go offline on 1st May 2005 at 10:30 a.m. Indian Standard Time.

In fact we dont even have enough money to pay for the main XBoard server, but I am once again paying for it from my own pocket because I dont want the board to close down. I dont think I can do this indefinitely.

The contribution link has not been working. We are trying to set it up again ASAP. I appeal to all to contribute generously so that we are able to pay for the main server at least.

I know that rapidshare, yousendit and other similar services have some problem or the other and are disliked by most members, and that the ccvids server was everybody's favourite, but I am helpless at the moment. I have seen many members use spymac accounts to share files, and I have myself downloaded many files without any problems. Also, our new tracker is now working fine and is among the best.

Hi People,

The Admin and Mod team have been discussing the AVs and Signatures of the users. We are seeing lots of nude and semi-nude AVs and Pics in the signatures.

Many members visit XB from their work place and they mainly stick to NHB/C&T/News sections. And it will be very embarrasing for those people to see nude AVs and popping boobs We donot mind topless pics in specific threads but not everywhere and anywhere.

And some members have very large pics in the signatures. Because of them, it takes a lot of time for the pages to load, for the dialup users.

So effective immediately, pls follow the following guidelines for the convinience of the XB community.

1. Please DONOT have any full nude/topless AVs.
2. Please DONOT have any full nude/topless pics in the signatures.
3. Please restrict the height of the pic in your signature to 150 pixels.

Dear CCers,

Our board suffered some downtime taoday. It was inaccessible from all parts of the world. Even when connectivity was restored, the access was intermittent for some time.

The reason for this is that the datacenter where our server is housed itself faced some network problems. We are not the only site to experience this downtime. Hundreds of thousands of websites faced the same problem.

The good news is that there is nothing wrong with our servers and we have not been attacked by malicious elements.

I have been assured that the problem is sorted out now. But after being in the IT field for more than 15 years, I am keeping my fngers crossed.

Lets hope for the best.

We have all been troubled with various episodes of advertising of other websites being done on our board. The members have been very helpful in alerting the moderators, and the moderators have worked hard to control the attacks.

However, it is not possible for the moderators to be online all the time and the spammers have occasionally been successful. Now we have implemented a system whereby all members can contribute in controlling this menace.

Whenever you see any spammer posting indiscriminately, please give negative reputation to that person immediately.

In a short while, after receiving negative reps from a few members, that userid will become restricted. He will no longer be able to post in the regular forums.

Please do not misuse this feature, it is for our own good.

ChitChatters.net has tied up with Hot Indian Videos. They will be acting as our video archive. The site is managed by our senior members - chakk_lo and mike corleone. We have also opened a forum called "Video Archive" so that you all can interact with them better.

Any videos uploaded to ccvids server will be made available to HotIndianVideos so that they are not lost when they are deleted from the ccvids server to make space for other videos. They have much larger capacity to host videos and will be retaining the same for a longer period.

Also, many people have problems using torrents. No need to miss out on those videos any more. All videos released on torrents will be available at the video archive for direct download.

They have their own videos, too, which have never been released at chitchatters.net, and will have many more in future also.

So friends, this is one more way that we have attempted to serve you. Hope you will like it.

With the continuous and massive growth of our forum, it has come to note that many people are facing problems attaching images in their posts. The reason behind this being that Godfather allotted about a GB of space for attachment needs, but with the exponential growth of the amount of users posting here in PNV and CC.Net in general, there is a definite need of more space for pictures. Increasing the allotted attachment space may not solve the problem, since it may soon not cater to a yet larger group of members, and is also not feasible.

To solve this problem, some senior members did come up with a sister-site solution for CC.Net where users can upload images and hotlink them directly and exclusively at CC.Net. Following that responsibility was put upon me to handle the site and its administration. But due to lack of continuous time and excess of tests and college tasks, I was pretty slow in starting Bollygallery off. An announcement was alo made regarding the beginning of Bollygallery, but it was lost amidst a number of other announcements.

Fortunately, I have a 10 day break going on, within this time I'll try and fix up every possible issue at Bollygallery. But, since these issues don't affect the normal functioning of Bollygallery, I request you to start using Bollygallery as a categorised and organized solution to all your image-hosting needs.

1. Create an account at www.bollygallery.com. you will need a valid e-mail address to register and activate.

A lot has been happening at our board and I thought I should tell you people about the developments.

We are now using the new version of vBulletin - 3.0.6, and the day after I upgraded the board 3.0.7 was released. Well, (sigh), I will upgrade again in a day or two so that we are with the latest version again.

The server (main chitchatters.net server) was becoming slow and people were complaining. I have implemented a number of things, and I think all of you will agree that the server is now quite responsive, even with 400+ people online. I hope the server will scale to 1000 simultaneous users without further tweaking.

I had initially allocated 1GB space for attachments with no user level limits. A few days ago we reached that limit and no new attachments could be uploaded. I have now implemented the following limits - 20 MB for regular members, 50 MB for contributing members (orange ids). I have also allocated 700 MB of additional space for attachments.

We have been accepting contributions towards server fees since 12th January. Some members have contributed, but we need more members to take the initiative to make things painless. Some users have problems paying through PayPal/Credit Card. So we have now devised ways of sending Demand Draft or depositing cash into a bank account. I hope to see more generosity from members in this regard so that we can have a better online experience at chitchatters.net

To intoduce transparency into the contribution process, we are now showing the data on the board. On the main page (http://chitchatters.net/bbb/index.php), there is a contributions option available which shows the summary. To view the details, click on the "Contributions" heading of that table to reach this page. We are trying to alter the format in which contributions data is presented so that it becomes easier to understand.

All historical data (12th Jan to date) has been entered here. The amounts shown may be slightly lower than what you sent, because paypal deducts its commission. If you have contributed and your name does not appear here, or the amount shown is wrong, please raise a ruckus.

The video server was not being able to take the load and there were various problems. People were complaining of slow response from the server and sometimes they could not connect and download at all. The server was also behaving erratically and various services were failing. Also, we were not sure if we could afford it in the long run.

For the above reasons I have taken the video server offline for a few days. In the meanwhile I am discussing with various senior members how we can effectively utilise the server without facing problems and also how we can pay for it without feeling the pinch. Expect to hear from us shortly about this.

One thing I can assure you is that torrents is a way to share files without relying too much on servers and other resurces. I take all possible pains to ensure that more torrents are seeded. But it not something that one person can do. I cannot over emphasisze the need for higher sharing ratio to make torrents a reality.

Some members have complained to me that some files had been recently uploaded to the ccvids server when it was taken offline. Hardly anyone has been able to download those files. If you people tell me which files you want, I can make some effort to get them released through torrents.

Last but not the least, primary trials of online radio have been successful. We shall be implementing a radio where various members can take turns to act as jockey, and others can listen. The bandwidth requirement will be 32kbps, which is so low that even users with slow connection can participate. We shall test the system thoroughly and start the service soon. Keep your song collections ready for becoming a radio jockey.

hi all,

ccnet was down for most of today (IST).

The reason is that we had shifted to a new server yesterday. The shift seemed to be ok, but it was not. Apparently, some change we had made to vBulletin was not shift compatible, to say the least.

Anyway, things seem to be working and stable now,. The only downside is that we have had to restore the database from the old server, so if you made any posts after the shift, they are lost. I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I will install the changes again, one by one, over the next few days. I dont expect any problems, because we were using those earlier also. But in case anything untoward happens, I hope you will forgive me. My intention is to make the ccnet experience better for all of us.

ChitChatters.net is growing at a tremendous pace thanks to the support of our great members. This growth has necessiated a change of server.

We are proud to announce that ChitChatters.net will now be shifting to its own new server. This is a very powerful server, and is hosted at one the best datacenters in the world. You may not notice any difference at present, but as the load on our board is growing, it is better we act now.

The options available are:
Normal:- This is also the default. It shows 3 days ago, 3 weeks ago etc.
Yesterday/Today:- Shows those terms and the detailed date for further back.
Detailed:- Shows full date everywhere.

We have received a number of private messages asking the admin/mod to activate ids. This forum requires you to activate your account before you can post (or) browse other forums. To activate your account, all you need to do is click on the activation link in the email you received during the registration.

Please note that Yahoo treats the activation mail as "Spam" (or) "Bulk". So, most probably your activation email must be resting happily in the "Bulk" folder.

I have tested this myself by registering with a yahoo account. So, please check your Bulk folder before sending us a private message.

If you cannot find the email in Inbox/Bulk folder, then probably you have selected the option "Automatically delete emails in Bulk". To fix this

(1) Goto Yahoo Mail Options
(2) Click Spam Protection
(3) Uncheck "Immediately delete these messages upon receipt. (Note: If you choose this option, you will not be able to review the messages before they are deleted.)"
(4) Click Save Changes
(5) Resend your activation email by clicking this
(6) Click on the link in the activation email

It was noticed that almost all members were browsing the board in invisible mode. It seems that the mistake was mine. The default at the time was set to invisible mode, and most users left it that way.

I have made amends now. Any new registrations will be visible from now on.

I have also reset the option for all existing users. In case you actually want your online status to be hidden, please visit your user Control Panel and reset the option.

Another good news, fellow chitchatters. We now have the ability to post picture attachments with our messages.

The attachments may be of type gif, jpg or png. The size of each indivisual file is restricted to 200 Kb (204800 bytes).

There is currently no limit on the amount of space each user may occupy on the server.

User titles have been implemented. You must have noticed one or two words below your id's.

There are various levels of user titles based on number of posts. I will not release a list of the titles and the minimum post count required to achieve them. I'll leave it to the members to figure that out.

However, I can tell you that the highest title is "User Selectable" and the one below that is "ChitChatter".

The smiley probem which had cropped up after shift to vBulletin has been solved. Unfortunately, all old posts will not look okay without editing. The choice was either let them look okay, or give the users what they want, so I opted for the second.

Expect to see an improved look on some of the smilies and some more smileys in the near future.
