Skrtel denies exit talk

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has taken to his own personal website to deny rumours linking him with a move away from the club this summer.

Skrtel, 27, was Liverpool's best defender last season in the eyes of many observers and had been linked with a move to Manchester City in recent weeks.

The Slovakia defender, though, has moved to quickly refute reports of any contact from other clubs and pledge his future to the Anfield side.

"In the press there have been rumours about my future," Skrtel said on his official website. "I would like to say that so far I have not received any specific offers and I have not been in talks with any club. I'm looking forward to the new season very much and believe we will be well prepared for it and it will be better than the last one."

Skrtel joined Liverpool from Zenit St Petersburg for £6.5 million in 2007, going on to make 164 appearances for the Reds over the past five years.

Agger: I’m happy at Liverpool

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger says he is happy at Anfield and would be happy to discuss a new contract at the club.

The 27 year old Denmark captain was one of the Reds’ standout performers last season, forging a successful partnership with Martin Skrtel.

“It’s no secret that I’m happy to be in Liverpool,” he told Danish newspaper sporten.dk. “Otherwise, I would not have been there for six years.

“I have not discussed a new contract, but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them.

“It’s not something that is urgent, for I have contract until 2014, but if they ask I will listen.”

Agger’s style of play is in accord with new boss Brendan Rodgers’ philosophy and the Dane is expected to prosper under the Northern Irishman’s reign.

“I am looking forward to meeting the new coach,” he said. “I’ve seen what he has done at Swansea, and it has been impressive.”
