Hello A16 - I saw ur comments in LDASU's thread. I also analyze photograph from LDASU's thread. Photography is my hobby. Here are my suggessions. I select camera based on two points.

1. How you are going to use it. (Portrait, outdoor, indoor (like marriages etc), nature, sports, low light, night shots .... or EVERYTHING)
2. Your budget.

Canon Vs Nikon

I prefer Cannon because its colors are more natural and true to life. Nikon will also give you sharp and colorful picuture. But in my opinion NIKON's colors are not true to life. (means colors are not same as in real life)

Second, from my experience, Canon does good job in low light conditions, (with high ISO settings) Nikons produces more grains in the picture in low light .
But everything is depending on individual model. Once you select a model, review it on sites like DPREview.com

Based on Usage:

If you are going to shoot only in outdoors with lots of light.. then dont worry about anything. any camera will do very well in bright lights in outdoors.

For low light, indoor pictures select the camera that with high ISO. If possible also look for faster lens. (camera with smaller F. stop number on the lens )

If you are going to shoot lot of landscape pictures, (like nature scene etc.) choose the camera with wide angle lens to cover more area. (wide angle lens will have smaller mm lens. specified as 28mm or 18 mm etc)

To shoot from very long distance, select longer optical zoom.

If you know photography, (or want to learn) then select the camera with Manual mode. If you just want to shoot, then select the camera with more automatic modes/scrne settings.

Important points:

Dont worry about megapixels. even 10 MP camera is good enough. Focus on other features, not on megapixels.

Optical image Stabilizer (also called as Vibration Reduction ) is very important feature to get clear picture without blur of shake. Some cheaper models has electronic stabilization which is not that good. Always get the camera that has Optical stabilizer or optical VR.

Digital zoom: its total useless feature. Dont worry about digital zoom.

Optical zoom: To zoom objects that are far away. But remember the longer you zoom, its difficult to keep the shot stedy. In my opinion, anything byond 10x zoom is not that useful because its very difficult to take stedy picture if you zoom that much. 4x optical zoom is good enough for normal usage.

Budget:

Rs.10,000 is a good budget. You can get good camera for that price. Try to get through from some friends who come from USA. Its cheaper here and you get more new models.

Let me stop here. Good luck.

Another easy way to look at it:

1. Go to Amazon.com
2. Go to Electronics & Computers section - Cameras, photo section
3. Select Point & Shoot
4. Use the left side filter, to filter Canon, Nikon, Fujii
5. Filter on price to $100 - $200.
6. Sort by Best selling.

Thats it. You got yourself a list of best selling cameras and there are customer reviews too on each model.

I did the above steps and here is the link. Not sure if the link will work for you or not.
