GD PI is i think the most crucial part of selection, it makes d real difference. You might have heard a lot that a particular guy cracks all d written exams but gets stuck in PI !!!!!!!!!! So its most important, even if you have lower scores in written, this is the part you can fight to get the job. GD environment is controlled, so if u are a person who has difficulty in jumping the crowd, u too will get a definite chance. The GD moderators are generally people like GM and DGM, so you dont want to create a bad image in GD as they shall be the one taking your PI. GD begins with a topic , 2-5 minutes given for your thought process and start in a serial, once all have spoken you can discuss. So what you say in your first chance should be the base for others to give you more chances. PI includes what you spoke in GD, your background.( Dont think that you are a chemical engineer and they dont know engineering, they can ask any subject in the world, they also invite external faculty who generally is some high class professor in big university or an IAS/IPS officer. They ask you your area of interest. I always had taken advantage of this: mine is Capital Markets and i know well enough. Sometimes the PI gets negative, no1 agrees to you. Dont get anxious and keep patience and respect for them. Remember they can disagree that sun is yellow, but you have to politely tell them that this is what you think. |

MBA always has an edge over others. Some banks come out with posts like Management Trainees or Scale II, this is one step ahead of Probationary officer. But such seats are few .......... ![]() But even if you join as PO, MBA degree is reflected in your profile and your postings/ profile can be more challenging than normal graduates. |

Talking about work culture, nothing can be said for a bank. Its more of Branch level thing, some branches are so professional, that you will wonder if google is that efficient and peaceful to work. While other branch may pose you a life chaning experience, its more of a luck/ jack thing to get a good branch. Officers ( except in Credit) dont deal with customers directly. Customers come in direct contact of clerks. Clerks do the job and get it approved by officer. So officer is responsible for jobs done by others and by him as well. Overall work culture is ok. Not always good not always bad , i.e. the way its every where. |

Preparation etc.
Quote:
http://www.ibps.in/ will give you a good info. SBI n RBI n few others recruit separately. Keep a tab on newspaper ads. Books: Since each one of us is different from other, the books also need to be chosen considering the same. The exam may be said to contain 4 parts: 1. English 2. Apti (Maths) 3.Reasoning. 4. General Awareness & Marketing. 1. English: If u r good, just go thru synonym, antonym, vocab thing. Thats all. If this area is weak, then you have to start from some basic grammar book. Cant suggest any book for english since didnt use any. : 2. Aptitude: I bet 90% of the people who are reading this can do 100% of the problems in most of the Bank exams................ But its about speed with accuracy, miss one and u have missed all. My CAT preparations helped so didnt prepare for banks separately. 3. Reasoning: This is the tricky thing, the paper is reasonably challenging ( bcoz of time). Practice as much you can on your strenghts, Leave the weakest points if u cant improve. 4. Marketing and GS: Lots of marketing books are available, buy any thin book titles marketing management.99% in marketing MCQs are sure.( of coz if u read d book) GS My biggest weakness): Most of the questions come from finacial marketing pertaining to banking sector and some bodies like IMF, RBI etc. Some general knowledge questions are also popper in. My suggestion: Try the way you like but do get some book with atleast last 10 years papers and if u lack time jump all d sections but be thorough with the GS part. If u mug up 1000 MCQs you will find some of the answers for sure. Friends, the best part is the tricks bcoz every1 works there ass off for a job but not all can make it. I will share my secret: 1. Nobody knows 100%, so dont be an idiot to solve 100% if u r serious. 2. For exams like IBPS or whenver the seats go beyond 800, the but off comes to about 60% that means 30 questions out of 50. Actual cut offs go even lower depending on the level of hardness. ![]() 3. Learn to skip questions at first sight, never make a hard rule to start from q. no1 and go to q no.100.........never Read the 1st , got a clue?? solve. No clue turn the page and find the questions which are in 1 line i.e. shortest of all, it takes less time to read and thus saves a lot of time. Save your time by going real fast in GS/Marketing/English to use it in maths and reasoning. U should know most of the exams have sectional cut offs, so scoring in all is a must. I think this should leave you some clues. And thanks for reading my thread and i am really happy to help you all. If you benefit, i shall be satisfied. Thanks and all d best. |

Inspite of being a MBA i had to consider a better paying job that landed me in Bank. I joined Bank first as Scale I, but soon resigned and joined the same bank as Scale II (saved about 5 years). So you can say this is my 1st job. |
